Brazilian legend Rivaldo has urged Gareth Bale to make the switch to Newcastle United after falling out-of-favour at Real Madrid under current boss Zinedine Zidane.
The Wales international has struggled with regular injury concerns over the past few years with Los Blancos and the story has remained the same this term with calf, thigh and ankle injuries keeping him out on the sidelines.
Elsewhere, the attacker is not regarded as a popular figure under Zidane and there have been occasions where he has featured off the bench or stayed seated as an unused substitute.
He currently has more than two years remaining on his contract with Madrid giants but there have been no solid offers to sign him, considering his staggering £600,000-a-week wages before tax.
In his column on Betfair, Rivaldo has now urged Bale to consider a move to the Magpies, who are likely to spend big during the summer with the anticipated cash injection from the prospective takeover.
He added that Bale would assume superstar status with the Tyneside outfit on top of sizeable wages and he would have the chance to prove that he is one of the best in the world.
“Newcastle should receive a big money injection this summer with a new owner coming to town and this could be a great destination for Gareth Bale, as he could re-assume his superstar status at the club and keep earning a big amount of money,” He told.
“It would be a great chance for him to prove he is still a top-class player and be considered again one of the best in the world, so if this offer really comes, I think he should accept it.”
The Magpies are likely to make a couple of marquee signings in the next transfer window, if their takeover from PCP Capital Partners, backed by the Saudi Public Investment Fund is complete.
While they may be in a position to match Bale’s salary, the question arises as to whether Los Blancos would be willing to sanction his sale for a cut-price fee under the current financial climate.
The Welshman was purchased from Tottenham Hotspur in 2013 for a then-world record fee of £85.3m and they may not even receive half of that sum with the valuations having tumbled amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
While the Magpies’ potential new owners may have the transfer funds, they can’t spend unaccounted this summer with the restrictions in place through the Financial Fair Play.
